Ruturaj Gaikwad’s IPL journey began in 2018 when he was bought by the Chennai Super Kings for 20 lakh rupees. He played only two matches for them in 2019 and 2020, scoring 5 and 0 runs respectively. However, he bounced back in 2021 and scored 635 runs in 14 matches, becoming the highest run-scorer of the season and winning the Orange Cap. He also scored four half-centuries and one century, with a strike rate of 141. He helped his team reach the final, where they lost to Mumbai Indians by one run.
